About
Karen joined Desert Valley Pediatrics in 2018. She moved from the Phoenix,AZ area where she had been working in pediatric primary care since 2005. A couple of years were spent in pediatric emergency medicine too. She received her bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University and her master’s degree from the University of Utah. She is fluent in Spanish.
She has all 3 nurse practitioner certifications offered by the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board: pediatric primary care, pediatric acute care, and pediatric primary care mental health specialist. Karen enjoys working with all pediatric age groups from newborns to high school seniors. She is skilled in managing pediatric problems including failure to thrive, breastfeeding difficulties, asthma, allergies, eczema, ear infections, urinary tract infection, attention deficit disorders, Down syndrome, anxiety, depression, pregnancy prevention, sports physicals, and more. Her approach to primary care is to work with families to decide together what the best treatment option will be for the child. She values teaching families to help them understand the child’s condition, and treatment plan options.
Karen lives with her husband and 4 children. She has been a foster parent as well. Aside from her many family responsibilities, she volunteers with her church. Occasionally, when there is free time, she enjoys reading, and being outdoors.
